As believers, we live by the protocols of a different realm. Though we walk on the earth, we do not operate like the world. We are citizens of the Kingdom of God, and that comes with a new identity, a new nature, and a new way of life.
Jesus made it clear:
“They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.”— John 17:16 (KJV)
At the moment of salvation, we were not just forgiven, we were transformed. We became new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17), priests and kings unto God (Revelation 1:5–6), and partakers of divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). This new identity demands a new standard of living..
What Are Protocols?
Protocols are systems of conduct that guide behaviour within a specific domain. Just as there were specific instructions for Old Testament priests, there are heavenly protocols for New Testament believers. These divine patterns are revealed in Scripture, not to confuse us, but to guide us:
“The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together… The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes.”— Psalm 19:7-9 (MSG)
God is not mysterious in His expectations. He has shown us how to live in a way that aligns with His heart and power.
The First and Greatest Protocol: LOVE
“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”— 1 John 4:8 (KJV)
The foundational protocol in the Kingdom is love. Love is not just what God does. It is who He is. When we received Christ, God’s love was poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit:
“…the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”— Romans 5:5 (KJV)
Love is the engine of the believer’s life. It’s what powers our decisions, our ministries, our interactions, and our sacrifices.
Love Is Our New Nature
At salvation, God gave us a new heart:
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you… I will give you an heart of flesh.”— Ezekiel 36:26 (KJV)
That heart is wired for love. It’s not something we try to force, it’s something we grow into as we mature spiritually. When a believer fails to walk in love, it’s often a sign of spiritual stagnation, not a personality flaw.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering…”— Galatians 5:22 (KJV)
Love is the first fruit of the Spirit because it is the very nature of God manifesting in us.
Love Is How We’re Known
“Ye shall know them by their fruits…”— Matthew 7:16 (KJV)
God doesn’t just listen to our declarations of love; He looks for fruit. Love is the proof that we belong to Him. We cannot claim to love God while harboring bitterness or unforgiveness toward others.
“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar…”— 1 John 4:20 (KJV)
Our faith, our gifts, even our giving mean nothing without love:
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels… and have not love, I am nothing.”— 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (paraphrased)
Love Regulates the Believer
We don’t allow emotions to lead us, the Holy Spirit is our regulator. When you’re stirred in the Spirit, love flows naturally. That’s why praying in tongues isn’t just for spiritual strength; it’s for spiritual sensitivity to keep us tuned into love, not led by the flesh.
When we act in love, we are acting like God.
“Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love…”— Ephesians 5:1–2 (KJV)
Love Powers Everything—Even Our Giving
Even our offerings must be presented with a heart of love and reconciliation.
“Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee…”
— Matthew 5:23-24 (KJV)
God doesn’t just weigh the act. He weighs the motive. Love must be at the center of everything we do.
Love Gives Vision—Selfishness Distracts
Where love exists, clarity and purpose follow. But where selfishness reigns, people become preoccupied, distracted, and visionless.
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”— Philippians 2:3 (KJV)
Jesus was the expression of God’s love, and now we are His expression to the world. Love is our assignment.
Final Thoughts: Love Is the First Protocol
Love is not optional, it is the first law of the new creation. It is the protocol of the God-kind. God will judge our works through the lens of love. If we operate in power, faith, knowledge, or even deep sacrifice—but not in love—it all amounts to nothing.
So, as we begin this series on the Protocols of the God Kind, remember:
- You are not of this world.
- You’ve been made a priest and king.
- Your life is now governed by divine patterns.
- And the first of them is LOVE.
Let love lead you. Let the Spirit stir you. Let God flow through you.
